Mort & Co Fertilisers was established to repurpose an abundant resource, backed by Australia’s biggest feedlot.

The product range provides a convenient solution to help improve soil constraints such as compacted soils as well as improved fertiliser efficiencies, such as nitrogen utilisation. Features that are unique to the carbon-based granules makes the products a perfect fertiliser companion providing application flexibility and blending with conventional inputs. As a certified organic input, the granules fill an agronomic gap between soil health and increased nutrient use efficiencies.

Spread

Our granular fertiliser can be applied strategically and at depth. The granular form allows this to occur via an airseeder, or deep ripper. The ease of application and deep application ensures the fertiliser is being absorbed where it is needed for healthy growth and optimal yield.

Absorb

Once applied, the fertiliser will retain up to two times its weight in water, which allows it to act as a slow release fertiliser. Its water holding capabilities also mean the soil becomes more resilient during dry times, while also promoting long-term fertility and enhancing the overall health of the agricultural ecosystem.

Enrich

As Mort & Co's fertiliser blends with the soil, it enriches the growing medium by providing a comprehensive array of macro and micronutrients. These include vital macro nutrients such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulphur, Calcium, and Magnesium, as well as essential micronutrients like Zinc, Manganese, Boron, Molybdenum, Cobalt, and Silicon. This diverse nutrient profile enhances soil fertility and ensures that crops receive a balanced and complete nutritional foundation, supporting their growth, resilience, and overall productivity.

Retention

By promoting the retention of beneficial elements and minimising leaching, our fertiliser ensures that valuable nutrients stay within the root zone, where they are most needed. Chemistry

Mort & Co granules are unique in their chemical analysis. The granule range have a high cation exchange capacity (CEC) which means a high nutrient holding function. This is particularly important for the retention of nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and potassium in low CEC soils, such as sand.

Is your soil low in organic carbon?

Mort & Co Granules are high in organic carbon. Organic carbon is the foundation of healthy and productive soils. Organic carbon positively influences, or modifies the effect of, essentially all soil properties, and it is what makes soil fertile. In addition, organic carbon can increase water retention, pH buffering and root stimulation among other positive effects. Furthermore, Mort & Co Granules are high in humic acid. Humic acids are well known to help plant roots receive water and nutrients.

Granule Structure and water holding capacity

Mort & Co Granules are unique in structure. Granules can contain up to 33% open porosity which means they are not completely solid and contain an interconnected network of airspaces which are connected to the outside surface of the granules. Moreover, granules have a high surface area to volume ratio, further enhancing their nutrient holding capacity. Acting like a sponge, Terrus granules can hold up to 235% of the own weight in moisture. In addition to their high-water holding capacity the high carbon content, CEC and unique structure makes them ideal for increased nitrogen use efficiency and retention. This can be achieved by blending the carbon-based granules with nitrogenous fertilisers.
